Infection Control Department

The Infection Control Department in Manipal plays a crucial role in preventing and managing infections, ensuring patient and staff safety. This department develops, implements, and monitors infection control protocols to minimize healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) while adhering to global standards.

  • Surveillance: Monitoring and reporting HAIs to identify patterns and outbreaks.
  • Protocol Development: Establishing hand hygiene, sterilization, and isolation guidelines.
  • Staff Training: Educating healthcare workers on infection prevention practices.
  • Audit and Compliance: Regular assessments to ensure adherence to infection control standards.
  • Outbreak Management: Immediate response to contain and manage infectious outbreaks.
  • Patient Education: Informing patients about infection risks and prevention methods.
  • Collaboration: Working with departments to implement tailored infection prevention strategies.
  • Health Check-up: Co-ordinate with Medical team and conduct Annual Health Checkup for all Health Staff.
  • Vaccination: Vaccination program conducts of Hepatitis B for health workers and typhoid vaccine for Kitchen Staff (Human Papillomavirus) for Medical Students at Deep College.
  • Counselling and awareness: Provide Education and awareness about Needle Stick Injury, in case of needle stick injury provides counselling to all the staff and also co-ordinate for the prophylaxis.
  • Send environmental sample from high touch areas from the Critical areas, Dialysis Unit and OT.
  • Verification of sterilization of equipment: Autoclave tape for color change, perform Bowick-dick test micro-spore test and Cadex efficacy test daily.
